quasimodo LIVE

This past Friday night was superb. Loud and deep sounds ate my heart, crazy beats slapped my brain, melodies shook my body and smiles made me smile at a music live event. Such talented, skilled, and beloved of music goddess music lovers created a dance hall with full of love.
"quasimodo" which is a jazz band, but majorly they are acknowledged as a nightclub jazz band. A quartet has a decade of career as professional musicians. Since their debut, they were struggling with the reputation, however after they signed with Blue-note, they changed a lot musically, and I guess mentally too. Therefore the reputation got more accurate that means they got their right reputation such as "one great Jazz band in the world".
I think simply to listen their music is easy to understand precisely what the band is. I wish everyone loves Japan owns one of the great Jazz band in the world.

NEW "New National Stadium Japan"

images of NEW New National Stadium Japan
Is this all for no-one-knows Tokyo Olympic? This past 15th November, 2012, a winner revealed and the winner was Zaha Hadid who won an international design competition of re-newed "New National Stadium Japan" from 46 pieces. London based architecture office designed the stadium with a insect like shape roof-top and modern stylish curvy forme. Tadao Ando, who is a world famous architect and the chief juror, commented a reason of its crown with applause.
From July, 2014, current stadium will be demolished then the new one will be constructed starting from October, 2015, and March, 2019, which is the completing date with approximate total cost 130,000,000,000 yen (13 billion U.S. dollars). Wow! Gigantic amount of money will spend for the unsettled event such as 2020 Olimpics. Despite hosting the 2019 Rugby World-Cup, the original plan was "renewal" nor it's almost fully rebuild. I just hope some legacy of the stadium remains somehow.
Anyway, actually the winning design is astonishing!! I love it.

Omnishambles

Time comes close to a New Year, a lot of "- of the year" things appears. One of that is words, indeed. On 13th November, 2012, Oxford University Press released "Oxford Dictionaries UK Word of the Year 2012" and which is "omnishambles". The press defines "a situation that has been comprehensively mismanaged, characterised by a string of blunders and miscalculations".
"Oxford Dictionary" and
"The Best New and Trending Word of the Year 2012"
Japan has the same thing "The Best New and Trending Word of the Year". A couple of week ago, the 50 nominees disclosed. Most of them are from London Olympics, because it's one of huge events of the year anyway. However many just never be used after all. Some are totally seasonal as like some newly on the Oxford Dictionary. On 3rd December, 2012, somehow, somewhat, there will be a winning word of 2012 and a top 10 ranking of the year.

A video was on news, just because of that I checked the video. Then I love it. The video is filled by full of love of Japanese food as like its title "From Japan with Love (and Dashi)". And also it obviously shows its well understanding for the cultures and respect for it on its astonishingly beautiful scenes. Appreciation is the only thing to say for the video as one Japanese.
The video created by "The Perennial Plate" which provides weekly documentary series about eating. The founder is whom works all over the world as a chef, and the video is filmed by a well experienced camera-girl. That's why there are such yummy videos.

Obamas

Just after the presidencial election 2012, Japan also affected its result. People in Japan really cared who'd got to be the president of United States of America, despite of exchange, FTA, national defense, China or any other problems. Mr. Barack Obama is beloved by many Japanese people whether he belongs to Democrats or Republicans, or even he took beautiful winnig speach or not. Maybe it's because a city has the same name as him "Obama" or quite famous comedian looks like him. I guess this also is a way to enjoy other country's election, isn't it?

Shinjuku Terrace City's Christmas

These days there is a lot of news spreaded about Christmas events in Tokyo. At Omotesando Hills there's already started a Christmas illumination which collaborates with Disney last week.
Shinjuku Terrace City's images
And at Shinjuku Terrace City, which 888 meters vast area in-between Odakyu buildings, will hold Christmas illuminations from 14th November, 2012 to 17th February, 2013. This year's theme of Odakyu's is "Shooting Star". At the theme, 500 shooting star like illumination will be stored at the West gate of Shinjuku station and a "Shooting Star" motiffed Christmas tree will appear at Shinjuku Southern Terrace. Then there are more to come. At Mosaic slope the sealing will be decorated by 35 meter long 23 layered lighting curtains and at Odakyu Department store there will be shooting star lighting show on its windows. About 370,000 lights will be all around the area for amusing you all this Christmas time.
Oh, there are lots around Shinjuku. So, you may feel Christmas delight anyway in Shinjuku.

Megurogawa MInna No Illumi 2012

Last year's Meguro's illumination
These few years in Japan, Halloween is popular and celebrated everywhere. And just after it, everything quickly turns to Christmas.
Last year, a Christmas lighting newly started alongside of Meguro river and this year will be there too. It will start from 16th November to 25th December, 2012 with almost doubled its length like 1,500 meters long and also 213,200 cherry-blossom coloured LEDs for representing "Winter's Cherry-Blossom". However it's not only about that, it's with a trend-nizing idea. The idea is to use "Bio-diesel fuel" for its buttery. The fuel is made from used cocking oil collecting from home and restraints around the illumination area. It's energy version of local food movement. I really think it's great idea and want spreading this idea all over.

Livable Cities in the WORLD

I love strolling somewhere I've already known or not. 2 weeks ago, I walked around Paris, France and it remained me how fun to crawl around. And Barcelona also threw me a ball which raised my remembrance of a research on a magazine. "Economist" released its own list of the most livable cities in the world a couple month ago and following is the top 10 cities.

"The Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Livability Report"
1      Melbourne     Australia      97.5
2      Vienna          Austria      97.4
3      Vancouver     Canada      97.3
4      Toronto          Canada      97.2
5      Calgary          Canada      96.6
5      Adelaide     Australia      96.6
7      Sydney          Australia      96.1
8      Helsinki     Finland      96.0
9      Perth          Australia      95.9
10      Auckland     New Zealand      95.7

Then, looking at an another list of the top 10 cities by "Monocle" magazine.

"Monocle's Most Livable Cities Index 2012"
1      Zurich          Switzerland
2      Helsinki     Finland
3      Copenhagen     Denmark
4      Vienna          Austria
5      Munich          Germany
6      Melbourne     Australia
7      Tokyo          Japan
8      Sydney          Australia
9      Auckland     New Zealand
10      Stockholm     Sweden

There isn't Japan on the Economist's list but, scarcely, on the Monocles. On the contrary, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Helsinki and Vienna are on the both lists. What is a difference between the cities on the both lists and on the one list only? Moreover what is a difference between the both top 10 cities and unlisted cities? Thinking of that, I realise there aren't any gigantic cities such as New York, Lindon, Madrid, Paris and Tokyo; it's scarcely on the Monocle's at 7 spot. Then, I think the word "livable" is actually important and effective. Those cities have astonishing infrastructures, and too many varieties of shops including restraints and kinds. However these mean it's also needed more money and too occupied.
To target for Japan, especially Tokyo, payments for living is overwhelmingly high, accessibility for everything is just perfect though. There is everything from all over the world in Tokyo, however it's harder and tougher than any other cities to create "your own life-style". I guess that's one of the reason for unlisted.
In Japan, there is a phrase that is "Home is where you make it.". I reckon it actually is whether your city is on the lists or not.

re:NEWed Tokyo station

In this 1st October 2012, Tokyo station, now is an important cultural properties of Japan, gets renewed its posture as the first model.
Tokyo station, Marunouchi-side, built in 1914 as a gateway of  Tokyo. It's designed by Manji Kasai and Kingo Tatsuno who is the father of Japanese modern architectures. This first model had two dome roofs with Renaissance style, and three floors with beautiful red bricks with Victorian-Gothic style. Then, in WWII, 25th May, 1945, American bombs struck and was detonated some parts of the Tokyo station. It caused reconstruction of it as minimizing a number of the floor and wiped the dome roofs away. Because of Japan's gigantic growth, the Tokyo station had been getting bigger, connecting with the Tokyo's growth as its economy and population.
At 2006, a project has started. The project is called "Tokyo Station City" and it's all about a redevelopment around the Tokyo station. Then Hotels, department stores, underground and the station it-self has been renewed and still are going in. And as I already mentioned, the main event of the project is ready. Before its grand opening, the beautiful classic Tokyo station has been revealed. So, now you may see the outline of the station and feel the good old days.

Hian Aoyama : Paper-Cutout Artist

There are some persons who work well and are well known all over the world, despite their own country's people doesn't know it. When you notice the persons, you may be inspired a lot and even encouraged by them.
"Hina Aoyama" who is one of them to give you some impressions on what she does. She, is a paper-cutout artist, gets well deserved reputation in France and also EU but not in Japan. The pieces are so sensitive, feminine, technical, and of-course marvellous figures. Once you give a glimpse on them, you simply are captured. Therefore you would understand that she's been awarded over the EU. However now Japanese gets an opportunity to know how she is good. In October, she will be held her exposition at Tokyo and Kyoto. Summer Event at TV stations

Fire-works is one of huge summer event in Japan as its tradition. On a contrary,  there is a new tradition here, especially at Tokyo.
Tokyo has all "key" TV stations which provide basic TV programs. Other areas have "local" TV stations which have contracts with the key stations; usually 1 local station has a network contract with 1 key TV station except some super suburbs have 2 keys sometimes. That's the Japan's TV network system as a terrestrial television; of-course there are satellites, cables and web but it's not main streem. The system put more importance to Tokyo, because TV still controlls people in here anyway. And it's easy to understand why the Keys have such huge constructions their own in Tokyo. So, around their vast properties they can  provide huge events over 6 week straight. Such as inviting famouse musicians, restaurants, shops and to sell their own products. That's fun for someone who loves TV, because you may see some TV stars or musicians and buy your favourite TV program's goods. Moreover you may have enjoyable memories in summer. Sounds good, doesn't it?

And following links are the Key TV station's event WEB-site(Japanese only).

Fire-Works

Rainy season is past already, and now every day gets around 35 degree Celsius. Yes, summer has come!!
Every summer, lots of summer events are held in Tokyo; of-course all over Japan too, some are music evens, others are for kids or multiple for all age. What remains us a summer is "Natsu-Matsuri festival" and "Fire-works festival", because those give us enjoyable memories and also some sentiments that why we Japanese love them. "Fire-works festival" in Tokyo is quite special. The speciality is based on a situation. Tokyo has plenty of skyscrapers. FLOWERs between skyscrapers are actually illegible sometimes, but that defectiveness with sentiment is beautiful so to speak.

And followings is a list of famous fire-works event around Tokyo. Enjoy the summer!!

Free Paper in Tokyo

Tokyo has some free papers or magazines. Those are usually collaborated with sort of retailing companies, and published by huge publishers sometimes. It means there are not so much free papers for communities by communities. That's really sad sometime, but thinking of other way, there are well  qualitiy free papers because of publishers.
"Metro min." is one of distinguished free papers in Tokyo which is distributed by a company owning Tokyo Metro and published by a publisher. It contains a lot of trends based on the metro stations. However their articles aren't  all about metro. And what so impressive is usually main articles are edgy, stylish and one step ahead of trends. It sounds so cool, doesn't it? However if I might complain, it would be that the paper dessapire so fast as like a lightning. 2 days later its distribution, it's all gone. So, now I'm thinking of a derively order, it means the paper isn't free anymore, but I really want to check it every month inspire of the payment.
If you are interested in it, check it at Metro stations 20th every month.

Gyoko Underground Gallery

In between Marunouchi-building and Shin-Marunouchi-building which  are the centre of the Tokyo-Marunouchi area there is a gallery for free. It's located exactly between the both, and under the Gyoko street which the empire place to the special gate for Emperor of Tokyo station. Actually it's an isle connecting between Marunouchi metro station and Nijuubashi metro station. How practical it is. You may see some art-works when you just pass through the isle for the train.  The permanent exhibition is about photography of the past at Marunouchi called "Marunouchi in Pictures". You may enjoy the past and present of Marunouchi by the photos. That's the permanent one, but in many occasion there is exhibition collaborated with event around the area. And sometime's different like on 22nd  June, 2012. There will be a market called "Marunouchi Gyoko Marche". So you may buy veggies and anything good at the centre of a business district. Bread conquers Rice

On 3rd June, 2012, there is a news which is about that purchases of breads par one family conquers rice's first ever in the history.
The article shows a difference between a summarized amount of purchase for bread and rice last year. It says average of payment for bread was ¥28,368 = $354.60 ($1 as ¥80) and for rice was ¥27780 = $347.25. It analyzes why it happened is that because of changing life-style, people not cooking rice but buying at convenience-store and also price of imported wheats getting higher than before world-widely.
For me, it's really interesting because I love breads more than rice. I haven't cooked rice even scarcely have eaten, but I buy breads a lot. Every single of week, I visit a lot of bakeries, so... Yes, Tokyo has too many bakeries which beautifully good breads serving. Actually Tokyo should be famous as breads moreover France and Germany, I reckon. If you like breads, why don't you come down Tokyo and find your favourite shops, I may guarantee you that you may definitely find the ones. Because, Tokyo is "Bread Heaven"!

Tokyo Sky Tree

Last week, Tokyo Sky Tree, which is the highest broadcasting tower in the world right now, is opened. Also a shopping mall beneath the tower called "Sora-machi", translated directly "sky town", is opened and then millions and millions people has visited in the first one week. Official number of visitors at the both the tower and the mall is 1640000 for the first one week, over 200000 par a day, 85000 is only for the tower. Only what I can say is "Wow!!". I actually visited there this past week-end and saw that crazily packed the mall by people. It's just unbelievable. However, despite of the amount of people, looking at the tower from right under the tower, it's impressive and astonishing besides I don't like that the tower's design.

If you have a reservation for going to the tower's upper deck or not, why don't you visit to see the ginormous structure.
## Until 10th July, 2012, you need a reservation for going to the tower's upper deck.

There is PUBLIC ART

After I posted "Where is a public ART?", I checked where actually public art is in Tokyo, then I figured out Tokyo has better amount of it than any other cities have. Some are just buried into huge buildings or simply just difficult to notice because it's usually around dead corners. And there is an another point that mostly the pieces are SCULPTUREs. I love sculptures but I want to see much more variety of art works, especially huge city like Tokyo.  Even if there is the enough amounts and varieties, I still don't think it's enough, because the problem is not about numbers but opportunities. I mean more numbers of young artists get an opportunity to put their works at public. That is a main subject of the problem I believe. Don't you want to check brand-new artists on streets? If it's possible, Tokyo gets better reputation and more attention from all over the world, and becomes a cultural HUB in Asia.

Here is a list of public arts, some are one of famous series, a few my favourite ones and interesting ones.
Enjoy strolling with arts.

Eurovision 2012

Finally the Eurovision 2012 has concluded with Swedish singer "Loreen" winning. Every year I check a winner of Eurovision and some other good artists on the contest. It's really fun to do, because people in Japan scarcely get to know artists around EU, especially new ones.
In Japan, I mean in Asia, we don't have the same contest despite the Eurovision's long rein. If Asia, maybe with Oceania could do the same, it'd be really exiting and fun. Moreover, it'd be really
helpful our vulnerable relationship.
Anyway. I'm going to check through the final contestants again.

Collecting Beauties

Just after I posted "Asami Kiyokawa Exhibition 'Bijo-Saishu' @ Omotesando Hills", I went to Omotesando Hills to see her real pieces. And I... just hold my breath by them.
There were about a handled of the works, then you could see them really close. And all of a sudden, you might be stopped by her breathtaking works!! She perfectly used strings and fabrics, of-course, but not only that, she also used spangles, beads and feathers precisely. Those things were placed certainly on photographs. So, the beautiful pictures get more and more beautiful ever and become phenomenons.
I hope many people seizes an opportunity to see the details of her marvelous works at her real pieces.

Where is a public ART?

This past week-end, in Tokyo, the sun was shine, the sky was purely blue and cherry blossoms are almost fully bloomed despite winds were still little bit chilly. So these indicated the time to do "Hanami".
"Hanami" is a cherry blossom festival. Many carrying foods and drinks and set them under cherry blossom trees. It's traditional annual thing in Japan. Then, on that kind of weather, I, of-course, love to go outside, so I did. I walked all around the emperor place. Then I just thought "walking under the cherry brossums is pretty fun, but without it...". In New York City, there is a lot of public arts, that makes fun of walking. In Paris, la passages and architectures are like public arts, so those make people having fun during walking too. In Tokyo... where is a public art? I know there is few, actually thinking of size of the city, it's precisely not enough even it dosen't make anyone's fun for strolling. I think Japan should sift to the next step, which cities or towns dedicate more to people as not only governmentl things but social. Thinking more about communitis may make us stronger and tighter than before, and even it makes us to improve communities, I reckon.
