NEW "New National Stadium Japan"

images of NEW New National Stadium Japan
Is this all for no-one-knows Tokyo Olympic? This past 15th November, 2012, a winner revealed and the winner was Zaha Hadid who won an international design competition of re-newed "New National Stadium Japan" from 46 pieces. London based architecture office designed the stadium with a insect like shape roof-top and modern stylish curvy forme. Tadao Ando, who is a world famous architect and the chief juror, commented a reason of its crown with applause.
From July, 2014, current stadium will be demolished then the new one will be constructed starting from October, 2015, and March, 2019, which is the completing date with approximate total cost 130,000,000,000 yen (13 billion U.S. dollars). Wow! Gigantic amount of money will spend for the unsettled event such as 2020 Olimpics. Despite hosting the 2019 Rugby World-Cup, the original plan was "renewal" nor it's almost fully rebuild. I just hope some legacy of the stadium remains somehow.
Anyway, actually the winning design is astonishing!! I love it.

Taiwan Tower

At 2017, a Japanese designed tower will be finished its construction in Taiwan. The tower is 300 metres high and 10,000 square metres vast. Sosuke Fujimoto who is one of an unique architect in the world won a competition with such a creative renovation for human preconceived idea "21st Century Oasis". What the break-through is its shape of the tower. A tower, when you hear the sound, what would you imagine? I guess many surely imagine "La Tour d'Eiffel" like. Because it's a such beautiful structure ever exist as a tower. I love towers and I love "La Tour d'Eiffel" more among any other towers. Taiwan tower is totally different of the images.
What amazing is that heights. It's just a 300 metres high! Many newly constructed towers are still competing its heights anyway, but the Taiwan Tower is not. This year 2012, Tokyo proudly opens a new tower called "Sky Tree" which has 634 metres high and claims the highest in the world as radio towers. Such a shame. It's not a marvellous construction but is gross. In 21st century, Japan still enjoys this symbol of capitalism. Would you think Japan is a growing country? Absolutely not. Japan should have been mature enough... however it's not yet to be. But fortunately Japan has the people who designs the Taiwan Tower, It's a good consolation.

Then, when the time the tower stands, I'll go there for walking through under the tower and look up the island.

METABOLISM

From 17th Sept, 2011 to 15th Jan, 2012 at Mori Art Museum, Roppongi, there is an exhibition called "Metabolism - The City of the Future -" which is about metabolism of architecture.
"Metabolism" is sort of a movement or ideology of not only about architecture but also life-style. People thought that we would live sci-fi habitation and few architects actually designed and built some. After 311, we must consider about rebuilding. Metabolism was not a future, however, now still isn't it? I reckon there are still ideas for future at least.
You may see the future of the past and get many ideas from the past to a future.
There is only about 1 week left to go. Moreover, just re-think about it.

When I finished to write this article, I just got a news which is about a person who advocate "Metabolism" passing away.
Kiyonori Kikutake, age 83, designed a lot of famous architectures such as Sofitel hotel, Aquapolis, Shimane Art Museum, Edo-Tokyo Museum and so on so...

I wish he rest in peace and offer condolences to the family.

MOT 2011

This past weekend, I went to "Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo" which is one of the well designed architecture in Tokyo. Two expositions are held at the museum.
The one is "Architectural Environments for Tomorrow - New Spatial Practices in Architecture and Art". Some well known architects install some installations into the exposition.
These are steps that an architectural industry is needed or needs to think deeply and to change a way to construct with environments lately. This past decade, people have been educated and have learned so much things about the environment and also ourselves. Then, people have tried to get better and to change what we already have. So, you may see some those steps the architects have taken.

Then the other one is "Berlin 2000-2011: Playing among the Ruins". As that title, it focuses on Berlin where a centre of young artists from the world recent year. I've been there four years ago, and I was impressed by that there are a lot of new arts over the city and even there are actually so many good creations. Moreover, you may feel powerful hungry energy. You may also feel the same energy from the exposition too.

If you are in Tokyo, visit the museum to feel the energy and to get inspirations.
